Frequently Asked Questions

Is mo’time free?
Yes! Our basic service (personal web log, private messages, instant messaging client and subscriptions) is absolutely free and we have no intention of changing that. For those who wish to subscribe to additional services, such as online photo galleries and news feeds, we are planning to offer mo’timepro.
What does mo’time mean?
mo’time was coined as an acronym of the phrase: more than instant messaging at the birth of this project. As the universe of blogging began to expand rapidly, we were quite excited by all the possibilities, but felt as though something essential was missing – direct person-to-person communication.

The addition of instant messaging to a blogging platform is the first step in this direction. So mo’time is much more than a simple web log service, more than a stand-alone instant messaging client and more than the simple sum of these elements. The best way to understand why is just to try it! You'll want to spend more time keeping in touch, publishing and having a blast.

What does "blog" mean?
The word blog comes from the joining of the words "web" and "log". According to Rebecca Blood, one of the blogosphere's most noted historians: "in 1998 there were just a handful of sites of the type that are now identified as weblogs (so named by Jorn Barger in December 1997)...Suddenly a community sprang up. Peter Merholz announced in early 1999 that he was going to pronounce it 'wee-blog' and inevitably this was shortened to 'blog' with the weblog editor referred to as a 'blogger." Read more...

What is "instant messaging"?
Instant Messaging (IM) is a kind of communications platform that allows people to set up private chat rooms with each other. The instant-messaging system shows the user to whenever another person on their contact, or "buddy", list is online -- a capability technically known as "presence." The user can open a chat session with anybody currently online, as shown in the buddy list. Communication takes place by typing with a personal computer, wireless device (cell phone, PDA, etc.) or other Internet appliance.

Some popular examples of IM clients are ICQ, MSN Messenger and AIM (America Online). mo’time uses an open-source IM client based on XMPP/Jabber technology, powered by Tipic, Inc.
